Lloyd Biggle, Jr.'s essay was his speech at the New Orleans Nebula Awards Banquet. The illustrations in the essay by Richard Dale Mullen are the original art from where the stories discussed first appeared. The artists can be identified from their signatures. The art on pp. 138-139 are from "The Master Girl" by Ashton Hilliers; the illustrations on p. 144-145 are of the same scene in the Burroughs novel "At the Earth's Core" by different artists.
