As members of the Werkteater, actresses Shireen Strooker and Marja Kok made many films and performances based on current themes and their own experiences. When Shireen was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, her response to Marja was: 'We have to make a project about it. Everyone in the Netherlands gets it.' They had previously made two MAR & SIEN performances together that were about friendship. Shireen moved to a care home in the Beemster. There, on a bench in the park, the plan arose to create a third MAR & SIEN, through the seasons.
