I wish this had been a good Mission Impossible movie, since it apparently is the finale. What a letdown. From the silly main villain -- a very non-threatening and blase "AI", to a confusing and nonsensical, silly plot, that often times makes zero sense, the movie just is a rather mediocre entry in the series.
I also couldn't' believe how long an underwater scene and sequence in the movie went on for, it just went on and on and on, and it was very dull and boring to boot. That scene could have been easily cut to 10 minutes, and no one would have missed anything, and would have helped to cut the overly long running time of this movie (almost 3 hours!) to a more reasonable length.
Even the action scenes felt detached and hollow in this one, just like the supposed "emotional" scenes between the characters, which felt forced. What a bummer of a movie.

I recently saw this, and had (mistakenly) thought I had seen it before. But it turns out, I had never seen this movie before. It was an excellent action movie, with an exciting thriller-type story line, and was surprisingly good. Gerard Butler is great as the lead hero, and some of the action sequences in this movie are jaw dropping, with hard-hitting and breathtaking sequences at times, and remarkable in how well done they were shot - they must have had a really good action cinematographer on this movie. The story is also compelling, and has an intriguing plot line to it. Highly recommended for action movie fans.
This is a movie where the first 40 minutes (or so) are very good, with strong acting by the two main characters, and a slow buildup of suspense and creepiness. When unexpected things start to happen, it is well filmed and does become tense and suspenseful, and is the best part of the movie. I would say this part of the movie is a 7-8 in terms of rating - well worth watching.
However, after that surprisingly good and promising start, the movie jarringly goes into a whole new direction, and you are left wondering if this is even the same movie. It then just gets silly and sillier, and becomes just as bad and mediocre as most of the awful horror movies being made these days. I would say that its worth watching for the first 42 minutes, and then turn it off, after the scene transition - you won't miss anything good.
