A contract killer turned bodyguard trying to protect his love interest from international bad elements.
Though the movie had considerable budget, the execution was terrible.
Listing them in points:
1. Acting was horrible, especially of Varun's. There was no expression at all, with so much stunt training going on, I think he skipped basic acting lessons.
2. The movie is basically a copy of Hitman's bodyguard, Bodyguard series (Netflix), John Wick, Bourne and 100 other movies. Just made with low quality.
3. GVM, in the name of so called "classy movie" has made this movie with cringe filled redundant scenes. The generous use of "English" in his movie doesn't mean it's synonymous to international standards or quality. One easily gets distracted from a scene in just a couple of minutes.
4. Lot of logic loopholes with forced and predictable scenes. In fact a movie need not have a well defined good story, even a simple story could be well executed in a good way through screenplay, cinematography and dialogues but this movie didn't have any of those things
At the end it is just an action movie overshadowed by terrible acting and poor story. Watch if you don't want to use your brain much.

Right from the first few minutes of the film it is evident that the director tried to imitate Edgar Wright's style of directing (Shaun of the dead, Hot Fuzz etc.,). He terribly failed at it and ended up creating a half cooked weak plotted nightmare with forced laughs and cliche filled scenes.
Another important point is that actors should stop playing roles as teenage kids in school, as if we are still in 1980s or something. The movie 96 did a great job in this by being practical with brilliant casting.
Wonder why tamil cinema is doing so bad nowadays, we should stop encouraging such films and should not even watch it on OTT so that the directors feel the heat and stop making such low quality boring films.

New director, cibi's movie Don is about a youngster's life journey from being a student to a successful professional, that is filled with comedy, love and dad sentiment.
I anticipated a typical SK movie in lines of comedy gold like Varuthapadatha V. Sangam and Rajinimurugan. But the movie turned out to be a disappointment.
The major flaw that I noticed is that the scenes are cut short i.e, editing is quick without breathing space like that of new age YouTube content creators. (May be to attract gen z) As a result SK's humour is affected exponentially. Now SK has an amazing natural sense of humour, and it has made wonders for him. But his style requires long shot scenes with a mix of timed dialogue delivery and body language, all working in tandem. If you make his scenes like YT shorts then definitely it's gonna look messy.
There is a general lack of flow in the movie, scenes doesn't seem to fit together, thus screenplay is affected.
Other thing is, dialogues are poorly written. I think if SK took care of the dialogue part himself, the movie would have been much better.
Last and final, please it's bloody 2022, why do you show a grown middle aged man as a school boy. We have witnessed this in Tamil cinema for ages. The movie 96 broke that trend and thus was realistic. In my opinion movie stars should embrace their age and act accordingly, they can easily refuse such impractical age roles.
In a nutshell, the movie is not that funny, and sentiment is as that of usual typical old-school Tamil cinema making it as an one time watchable movie suitable for teenagers only.
