I've generally enjoyed Yellowjackets since the beginning, but I don't think I've ever disliked the young versions of the characters as much as I do in this episode. Young Shauna may have endured trauma, but she a truly nasty, cold hearted piece of work as the young version and I can't associate her with the older Shauna at all. Melanie Lynskey does not portray the coldness of the younger version at all. They are like two different characters and people don't change that much!! As for the rest of the young characters, they have generally become quite unlikeable too. Young Natalie has become more like the rest of them and young Misty is the only one showing any humanity aside from coach Ben. Às for Travis, he's just become so pathetic it's embarrassing.
I loved Lost, even the ending! There is quite a lot to enjoy in this film, especially when the stars of the show are talking about the series so fondly. What I didn't like was that it spent far too much time on fans of the show, a number of whom were really rather boring and totally self obsessed. It was more about them than the actual show!! This got worse later on when there was talk of some toxicity on the show, giving these narcissistic fans a chance to wallow in victim mentality droning on about diversity and inclusion etc. This was followed by the sob stories and illnesses suffered by some of these fans. I wanted to watch those from the show not people I have absolutely no interest in. I'd give it a higher score if they cut out the dreary fans.
I haven't read the books. I quite enjoyed the first series, wanting to know the truth about leaving the silo. That kept me watching, despite the fact most characters were rather unlikeable. I'm still watching season two, but my enjoyment has plummeted, due I think, to the fact we haven't left the horrible people in silo one behind. I don't really care what happens to any of them. Does the fact that it is set in a dystopian future mean that all women have lost all semblance of femininity? It would seem so, as most are either downright butch or just devoid of any sensitivities and are rather aggressive. I'm a woman, by the way and we vary greatly, but not here it seems.
People who have read the books are obviously at an advantage, but I'm just commenting on what I am watching. Rebecca Ferguson and Steve Zahn are the only characters worth watching. I very much dislike Tim Robbins in this. It's also painfully slow, far more so in season two. It's now something I'll only put on if there's nothing else!
