I honestly don't understand the bad reviews. I get if you don't find the resort pool-boy setting interesting, but 1 star?? It feels like some of these people just don't like Apple focusing on a Mexican family. It's not even all Spanish.
Anyway, the show is pretty simple, with an older version of the main character narrating the story to his grandson, which is a bit cliched, but the story has heart and I found myself laughing a few times.

I knew I loved this show 10 minutes in when Mr. Corman spoke exactly like me. Everything he said on the couch with his friend is exactly what I say/think and my friends agree lol. It's great to see something so relatable that's not just like nostalgia comedy. I went in expecting to hate it because most things that touch in depression are preachy and pretentious (this is too), but it does a good job.
Recently started watching, so haven't watched older episodes as they're no longer topical, so I don't what it was like then, though it probably didn't change much. The show's just really goofy, and the lack of a studio audience doesn't help, but if you like silly-turn-your-brain-off humor, it's pretty funny. Also it's not all about race and politics, so I don't know where that idea came from-maybe it was more prominent in the earlier episodes.
