A film like this is far more efficient at radicalizing the working class than the entire marxist canon ever could hope to be.
From all the lovecraftian adaptations I've watched recently (Re-Animator, Necronomicon, Color Out of Space, Dagon), this movie is by far the truest one, and that is saying a lot since this is obviously a low-budget work of love. Apart from the ending scene and a couple of other story elements, the narrative sticks faithfully to the original tale. The period characterization is very good and the black&white captures the mood in a very interesting way. What I would change is the use of very bad CGI for the alien creatures and instead keep them half-hidden from viewers through shadow and light effects.
Honestly, the only good thing about this movie is Frank Langella's performance as Skeletor.
