Premise is sound. A Star Trek depiction focusing on Section 31. Endless opportunities. Great lead actor as main character.
That said.
Nothing about this is Star Trek. I can't even imagine what the producers were thinking. This is equal to destroying Star wars, like Disney did with episodes 7-9. Star Wars by name, but we are not watching Star Wars.
The story have a somewhat interesting kick-off, a not-so-bad backstory explaining a little bit the main characters history, and possibly the reason for her interest in death and dark thoughts.
From there we are thrown in to sloppy story telling, stupid dialoge and absolutely zero understanding of how characters should be established or how to create interesting story arcs.
It feels like a sloppy B-movie space opera with no weight, completely lacking any form of cool factor, as the title is actually suggesting.
It will take miracle to save this!

As real life reality documentaries go, this is a real gem.
Filips father Lars, who is elderly and depressed, is treated to a 'last trip' to his beloved France by his son.
Using recordings from the past, super-8 films mixed with reality-style captures we are taken on an emotional father-son journey on multiple levels.
You have the actual trip but also the emotional journey taken by Filip and his father. We can se the love between a father and a son, and we can see how the son becomes the father, as the father becomes the son.
Lars slowly awakens and for the first time in many years, starts to live again.
This is a heart warming and beautiful story that is rare and it reminds us what family is, or can be.

At the end of the day you have to ask: what makes a really good star wars movie or series? Is it the light sabers? The ray guns? The space ships? The force?
No. Star Wars is about having the heart in the right place. To elevate the story to where characters and the story *feels* like star wars. It's a concerted happening between the script, actors, sound, directing, cinematography, editing, scenography, special effects, soundtrack etc. Where all these components, if you like, are converging to the same point, straight into our star wars hearts.
I am sorry to report that even if The Acolyte would pass as a decent Sci-Fi, it does not hit the mark to be an actual star wars saga. It feels like watching a cheap copy of star wars.
So Disney. Do it right, of don't do it at all.
