Mrityudand( Death sentence) is a Bollywood Art house film released in 1997 , directed by Prakash jha. Madhuri Dixit, Shabana Ajmi, Shilpa Shirodkar played protagonists & seen in lead roles. Ayyb khan & Om puri played supporting characters. Dixit's outshines everyone here & perhaps the best performance of Madhuri dixit's till date for which she won Screen awards & Sansui awards for Best actress. Shabana ajmi too has given top notch performance. Shilpa shines in her small role.
Story revolves around Madhuri's character n how she fights against injustice.
Based in rural village and how men in power do injustice with women, weaker & take disadvantage of their manhood, power & money to extreme. Film also focused on some taboo's in indian rural society through Shabana & Om puri's characters. Madhuri plays a strong headed village woman who fights for her self respect and right as well as other women's dignity and towards the climax she has given goose bumps through her top notch performance.
Film ends with strong message for society.
Prakash jha's one of the best film till date.
