The movie, common Lifetime movie, was incredibly typical. And I've seen plenty of Lifetime films with loose pieces, unanswered questions, and far-fetched nonsense. But the ending on this one.. was perhaps the most anti-climactic that I've seen yet. I'm stuck between thinking... really? This woman was pure evil, has a record of murder, and yet is apparently really easy to foil. It was really just that easy? And then what? Any kind of ending is absent. Maybe it's the most realistic of any Lifetime movie... ohh whoops! Good guy won! even though that's every Lifetime movie that isn't based on a true story. But it rubbed me the wrong way and felt like there were a few pages of script and substance missing.
I am not a bot, or at all associated with the film.
My standards for a good Christmas movie are 1) how it makes me feel 2) is there a good balance of magic and believability 3) is it timeless
While this movie seems to have taken place around the recession, otherwise it is timeless. It has more than one good message, very honest messaging in fact about poverty and how the cycle is hard for people to get out of.
I agree with some other reviews that the acting was a bit... Embellished and unnatural, but for me, it didn't take away from the movie. There was a low budget feel to it, but I felt that it still accomplished the goal of being a wholesome Christmas movie with a good message.
On top of that, there's a disclaimer that it was based on a true story. That puts it over the edge for me.
There are a lot of Christmas movies that have come out in many decades, but since the 80s, are there really any "classics" besides Elf? Most of them try too hard and are ridiculous and a tough sell.
This movie is one that I'll enjoy annually with my family, and I wish it brought the message to more families about the spirit of the season, rather than these critics that are searching for.. I don't know.. their movie actors to have a diploma from an acting academy?
There's no pleasing some people, but this movie pleases me greatly.
