When I saw the cast and screenshhots for this series I was hyped to say the least but ended up very disappointed. Seeing a shifted narrative that focus on Ramona is a great idea, unfortunately the execution wasn't.
Writers of the show completely misses the witty and stylish characteristics the comic and film adaptation delivers. It's very cliche with the same self-empowered-female message you see in alot of mainstream media nowadays, although without any real substance or originality to it. Knives and Ramona used to be my favorite characters in the Scott Pilgrim universe but comes off completely uninteresting here.
The animations, music and cast is top notch and had so much potential for this to be a great show. Unfortunately that talent is all wasted thanks to incredibly mediocre writing that completely fails to make use of the talent available to them. Something that's unfortunately way too common. 5 starts is thanks to the animations, music and cast. Hire better writers.

I was extremely skeptical when I saw the trailer for this and heard it was going to be a Netflix released but ended up pleasantly surprised.
It manages to use all the tricks in the old boxes and does it well enough. We have the classic vigilante cop, the classic villian, classic sergeant, the classic side characters (which was one of my favorite aspects), classic cinemtic shots and we of course have a bit of drama as well although I'd argue it was not really up to par with the rest. The film manages to tick in all the boxes you'd expect from a 80's Beverly Hills film and somehow manages to be "inclusive" without it feeling too forced like most of modern media.
Eddie still manages to make people laugh and the pacing of the film is great once the setting had been established.
Is it a masterpiece? No, but neither were the classics and the writing is definitely good enough for it to fit in with the classics and they managed to integrate the old characters as well who I thought did a great job.
This film easily deserves it place in the franchise which is rare to say about modern versions of classic franchises.
It's honestly a big shame this didn't get to debut on the silver screen and instead getting released straight into peoples living rooms and smartphones. That's probably worst part about this film.
If you are a fan of the classics you are likely to find they did alot of the old stuff really well here.

Fans already know how brilliant this series is but this episode is really something special and it raises the bar for the whole series. Praise the writers... and the entire cast!
