Only 12 years before this movie Emmett Till was murdered for supposedly hooting at a white lady. So though it may seem ridiculous now, when no one asks or needs permission to marry someone, it was pretty provocative back then. It's very interesting to watch movies like this now when certain views seem to be back-sliding into hate and resentment...
We need to continue watching classic movies like this to see how far we've come but also how it can get much worse if we let it.
But anyway, amazing performances even if it's not a perfect movie. And wow, Sidney Poitier was so handsome back then! I would have fallen in love with him in a few minutes or seconds too!

Love the casting and love it all, really. There may be some differences between this and the books, but I think it's still great.
Also, am I the only one who was reminded of the Megaloceros Giganteus after seeing the CGI deer? Or am I just a nerd? Haha.
