A young troubled man is introduced to a male cult. When an amateur (Adrian Brody as cult-leader) tries to cure him from some deep and hurting trauma, the trauma takes full control. Things might even become worse when day-to-day life is stressful, like becoming a father and seeing your wife give over to postnatal depression. The trauma is out and Ralphie (Jessie Eisenberg) can't take back control. Things desperately go out of hand. Every day becomes more painful than the previous one. The cult-leader gives Ralphie a gun as a present. But guns can be very dangerous. This movie is a thrill from beginning to end but in a shocking way. - I doubt if many women will like the movie because all the men in Manadrome are victim of abusive relations where the women were the abusers. As was Ralphie. I suppose the message is that abuse by women in relationships is probably very common but somehow people don't speak much about it.
This is an entertaining movie which you can safely watch with your entire family. The movie is suitable for watching it on Boxing Day or New Year's Eve. And when the movie is over you think the time was well spent. For a while, anyway.
There was no real mystery, let alone a Murder Mystery, although people get killed. So what was I looking at? I would say at a lot of highly egocentric people who are very much in love with their own picture, or ego. They come out of different worlds like politics, fashion, social media and even science.
What connects them is that they are all funded by some billionaire who sends an inventation to a Murder Mystery Party...

Although from 1956 and in B/W this movie has so much suspense and action that you will be tied to your chair for the duration of the movie.
The characters are realistic and likeable, but they are all quite tensed and confused because they are mixed up in a sudden, great mystery. "Who can you trust and who can't you trust?" That is a theme that slowly develops during this movie.
In hindsight this could have been an Alfred Hitchcock movie. The director, however, Don Siegel, moved on and made many of the intense action movies featuring Clint Eastwood as 'Dirty Harry'.
I had seen, long ago, a remake of this movie, which is the original. Nevertheless I got carried away.
As you can see, I rated this movie with eight stars. In this rating I took into account that this was a movie made in 1956.
Enjoy! I recommend it.
