It's a "westernized" adaption of Netflix' "The Devil's Plan".
The Devil's Plan is a lot more complicated and the UK version is a little simplefied, which I find refreshing, because I want to be entertained and not lectured.
The Devil's Plan although, the very first game, I haven't understood the rules nor what to do. It's so overly complicated with 5 or 6 tiers to the game and even more plots and twists, while "Genius Game" has only 3 layers and at max one more twist.
But you decide for yourselves. I might be just to simple for either show. Maybe it is because I am a non-native (English) speaker.
But both shows are good.

I really like that show (so far/up to episode 9) and it is really creative. You really have to endure episode one, because it's really confusing with the introduction of all the people and sometimes you don't know who is who and what their relations are/were. Maybe that's just a "me problem".
Episode two is gradually elevating that series.
It's basically - if you can compare those - "Desperate Housewives" and "Why Women Kill". If you loved those series then this one is for you.
The characters are so over the top sometimes but it's part of the story. The story telling is also new: 6 months before and 6 months after. You get several glimpses into the future and switch back to the present. It's a good concept. Even how they visually announce that.
🗿🗿🗿🗿 (as a proof I have seen episode 9)

For a German series not too bad, although it's a mixture between Ozark and Breaking Bad just "teen/highschool edition".
The story lacks of depth and has a lot of plotholes.
And since I am German and watch the series in the original the language sometimes is very weird and nobody talks like that.
Is it a new concept? No. Is it warchable? Yes.
So it's perfectly fine to waste your time on it and it's enjoyable. But don't try to overthink it. It's basically a teen series with a hint of what it could have been.
So go sit down, watch it and make a coffee to how sometimes the story stupidly unfolds.
Still a 7/10.
