...It seemed much longer. Terrible acting. So so story.
As a contemporary western, this film excels. It basically is the story of a Pinkerton detective searching for three former Confederate Army officers. They must be brought to "justice" for their war crimes, according to a newly-elected black senator. The dialogue reminds me of the dialogue from "Deadwood" in that the speech is more formal and the characters do not sound like a bunch of country bumpkins. Breaking up the story into four chapters is a good move. Keeps the story from wandering too far off course. The actors portraying the "bad guys" were very good. I even felt sorry for Bruce Dern's character! Good movie all the way around!
Interesting plot twist with this one. Instead of atomic energy of some sort awakening the beast, they use a chemical to eliminate salinity of the water.
Okay story. Can't say that about the acting.
Best scene at 44 minutes in. Shot of "war room" where battle plans are launched to get the monster. Map board shows where units are set up. Also shows position of monster. The plastic monster shown closely resembles our bad guy.
Okay cheapness.
