jsdoxey's rating
I'm convinced people only rate this highly bc it is different not because it's actually good.
Yes, it was very colorful but is that a good thing?
Yes the dialogue was unique, but does that make it great?
This feels like a movie made either one of two ways:
1. Heavily drug induced vision and direction.
2. Hollywood elite made it ironically as a joke between friends.
Feels like storytelling from over a century ago. Again, maybe they nailed what film making was life a century ago but again, does that make it good?
Story telling has evolved for a reason, no need to go back to an outdated style.
In addition to being different, it had an incredible cast with lots of cameos by talented actors.
But again, does that mean it's a good thing?
The whole thing feels ironic but people are taking it seriously.
I'm paid $2.89 for this and I'm not sure I got my moneys worth.
Good acting saved this from a 3 star rating but just barely.

I love these type of old western movies. Leo is an amazing, as was Deniro.
That said, this movie doesn't deserve a rating anywhere near its current 7.6!
I've enjoyed several long movies before but this was not one of them.
Could have cut out the middle 60-90 minutes and the movie have been much better.
The actor playing Leo's wife was incredibly boring with zero charisma or chemistry. I understand she was playing a more stoic character but hours of her not talking or smiling made this a snooze fest (I actually fell asleep an hour in).
The last hour picked up a bit once some actual drama got involved. Otherwise it was 2.5 hours of the same thing over and over.
We get it. People were killing the native Americans for their oil money. I didn't need to see 2.5 hours of that to understand it.

The only reason you wouldn't rate this movie extremely high is if you don't like musicals. Otherwise, this movie is great from every other perspective.
The message is not just about suicide but a message to everyone who feels like they don't fit in, which as a teenager, is probably a lot of people.
It's really for anyone, at any phase, who feels like they don't belong, which is not always the people you'd think it would be.
I'm a sales executive, home owner, host lots of get togethers, and seemingly have a good life (which I do) but I constantly struggle feeling like I don't fit in.
This movie is a simple reminder to be kind to everyone.
