Saw this film on its release on the big screen with the overture etc. I thought it was fantastic and remembered it in detail for years afterwards. I saw it in the freezing winter of 1962 and the sun drenched beaches of Tahiti made an incredible impact on me. People criticised Marlon Brando's accent at the time, but I think his accent is perfect for an eighteenth century fop which is mostly how he played Christian. Trevor Howard is all spite and nastiness as Bligh. The rest of the cast are mostly insignificant props. The stars are Brando, Howard, The Bounty and Tahiti.
In response to coolantic, I remember seeing as well, so that's two of us. I remember thinking it was quite funny and Hughie Green as a villain was very amusing. I remember the elephant operated lift as well.
