This could have been and should have been a great movie. It had a good cast, love Brian Cox and Bill Nighy, but the story is just awful. It was quirky and had some good things going in it, but over all it kind of tanks. Why they chose to go in the dark direction at the end is the main reason this tanks. This portrays British parents as self involved, lacking intelligence , and poor critical thinking skills. It is a shame because the animation itself is truly beautiful. Kudos to the art team working on this movie, too bad they didn't get a heartwarming story to go with it. This is definitely a one and done. No need to put yourself through this story again. Too bad, it really could have been a classic.
There aren't many movies where you felt bad for the male lead being stuck as the romantic partner of a complete dud. Kristin Wollett is not a good actress and the character is just plain unlikeable. Casey Elliott plays the kind, considerate neighbor trying to help out and be friendly. How he could fall for the milk toast control freak neighbor is hard to believe. Casey Elliott seems like a good actor and I will look for him in other productions. This one does not work, is boring, and you don't care if the girl keeps her shop or not. I am relatively new to this channel, I am hoping their other offerings are better.
