The episodes are very short but very watchable, easy to get sucked into the road trip and the interactions between the actors who are superb in their casts. Sometimes the sheer frustration of watching idiotic behaviours is enough to fast forward those sections just to see what else follows... but by then that episode is over. This would make a great feature length movie.
This was quiet watchable early on but expecting it to be a typical heartwarming English rendition of a favourite classic movie is disappointing. I'm sorry to say that I was annoyed to find Cratchit's 'sick child' turned out to a dwarf and Mrs Catchit an African woman. Stretching the characters into something unrecognisable does not help this movie to become memorable. I would sooner watch an older version of A Christmas Carol and be warmed at the heart. I gave this dark brooding version the flip.
I have a giggle everytime Elizabeth tosses that ink nib pen here and there even snapping her book shut on it. The pen is quickly dipped in ink and then flashy written with and then discarded with nonchalance as a new thought takes shape. I grew up with ink pens and they required delicate and expert handling if one were not to have ink blobs all over the paper, and in Elizabeth's case, all over the desk.
