  • There's Just So Much You Can Milk A Cash Cow $ Dino

There comes a stage in every brand, franchise, or director's life when they latch onto one Dollar Dino-I mean, cash cow-and milk it to extinction. Unless something truly extraordinary follows, that's the moment the next production jumps the shark. Or the MegaDollaroWhaloDon.

Even from the trailer, my expectations were low. The movie barely met them. My main motivation for watching was my lifelong love of 3D-ever since I got an original View-Master as a child in 1960s Pakistan (which I still own, thanks to my late mother saving my childhood treasures). The 3D and landscapes in the film were solid. The creatures? Impressively rendered. But everything else? Sadly disappointing.

The melodrama and clichés-plus the sheer predictability-were even more gigantic than the beasts. Even the extinct creatures had more expressive faces than the actors, who ranged from bland to blank to full-on overacting. This movie is a bigger egg than any extinct flying beast could lay. And not the golden kind.

At this point, the franchise feels less like a rebirth and more like a fossil being flogged. What do you think?

  • Related To My Tech Life, Great Fun, Even More So In IMAX

Great fun. And two small historical notes.

One, I was CEO of EverTrac, and launched the world's first moving map tracking and smart vehicle monitoring and management system.... in 2000. That was 6 years before Google Maps, 18 years before some of the current commonly available tools! It used CA's Unicenter management with hardware vendors to do real-time dashboards even of Mercedes-McLaren F1 season-winning cars driven by Mike Hakinen and David Coulthard. So, I was smiling so wide as I saw the automotive tech on display in the movie.

Two, I had even spent (wasted?? LOL) marketing funds on product placement of EverTrac tech on displays in the non-F1 but similar racing movie that was typical and predictable of a Sylvester Stallone move, DRIVEN, if I recall the name. How I wish that movie had been about actual F1 cars (which my tech worked directly on) and that it had Brad Pitt instead of Stallone. LOL.

So, my opinion of this movie F1 is that while it had the expected predictability of such movies, it also had enough human drama - and actual acting (not something I expected or ever got in the Stallone movie!). To see it on opening night in IMAX was even more fun, and I was delighted with the experience.

  • Attempt At Twisted, But Predictable, Boring, Annoying

Anthony Hopkins must be in financial trouble to have taken on this major disappointment and waste of time. Even the free version of Copilot in Bing could've come up with a better plot and far better dialog.

The characters were so under developed they'd be blank if they had been traditional camera film in a photo lab. The dialog was so undercooked it should've come with a salmonella risk warning.

The movie attempted to be twisted but was annoying. It tried to be twisty but was predictable. It wanted to be suspenseful but was boring.

The audience is the victim locked in the theater suffering through a script that should've been locked away in the depths of a paper shredder.
