I crack up at this one throughout. The two vice principals are terrible and I can't stop laughing. Belinda is my girl! I love to hear Walter Groggins curse in this. His character is a certified loser, but no worse than Neal Gamby played by Danny McBride. Most sitcoms have messed up characters who speak in ways which are crass and have flaws. Vice Principals just takes the horrible factor a bit farther than other shows.
This is a BET show but it's good and no worse than what any other network or channel would put out, barring a premium channel on cable. There isn't anything cheesy or over the top stereotypical to make you cringe at the characters or what they say. Mind you, I didn't go into watching this show with preconceived judgments just because it's on BET or set at an HBCU. This is fiction and there has to be some of this and that to make it a TV show. Again, The Quad is really good and worth a watch or 3, or 4, or 5. It's about time we don't have the same old romantic comedies and so-called hood shows containing caricatures of black women or men on a show on a black centered channel. The Quad isn't preachy, hateful, the characters aren't overly-sexualized, don't behave offensively, or hoity-toity.
I sat and watched this movie one day after flipping past it every other time it constantly aired on cable TV. Everything about it was okay, except the stoop ladies and the sex scenes. I laughed at some parts and it kept my attention, but then came the inevitable ending. That's what blew the whole thing to me. I have never heard of this movie's director and I've never read the book this movie is based on, but the ending was horrible. They tried to do flashes and jump cuts between scenes and characters to wrap up the story. Bad idea! They didn't execute right and the ending was idiotic and just contrived and made the whole movie a waste of time to sit through. I would have been so heated if I had gone to see this in the theater. Mess!
