There is a movie on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) that is shown periodically that is similar to this movie. It is from 1956, entitled "Beyond A Reasonable Doubt". That movie's plot is similar, although I won't reveal either ending. At first, I didn't like "The Life Of David Gale" because of the message that it sends, but it has it's pros and cons and causes one to think. I recommend both movies. I find it amazing and interesting that remakes can come from so far back in time. Afterall, who would suspect a remake after 47 years. Sometimes that is good, sometimes not, but since this isn't exactly a timeless classic story, both movies are worth seeing.
I have a new appreciation for Dana Delaney after both this role and her role in the movie Tombstone. I reviewed her other roles on this database and was surprised that I have seen so few of her performances to date. I wish I knew if it were her movie choices or a combination of the opportunities given her. I think she is a very under-rated actress, and wish I had seen more of her. Alas, I will enjoy watching her in Sirens or in Tombstone, in my opinion, her best performances - that I have seen anyway. Oh, and unlike the previous post, I don't feel the premise of the movie is that far off base. Without a plot, you don't really have a movie, now, do you.
