  • A Small Film that Packs a Huge Punch

Tilly returns to learn why she was sent away from home. While turning over every stone in town to uncover her own dirty little secrets she also reveals those of every sinner who wronged her.

KATE WINSLET, in an understated performance nuanced enough to move the audience to tears, plays Tilly. As a child she was sent away for a reason she can't recall. HUGO WEAVING plays the town constable forced to send her away on trumped up charges because of his own secret which he plays to delicious perfection. JUDY DAVIS plays Molly, Tilly's mum who also was forced to believe the lie. Ms. Davis' performance has shades of a sobering Mrs. Habersham who realizes, not a moment too soon, she neglected her daughter.

Liam Hemsworth does an admirable job as Teddy, Tilly's love interest.

The townsfolk of this hamlet in the Australian outback enjoy pointing fingers at those less fortunate until they ... well you'll find out when spend time them.

  • Gotta leave ethnocentrism at the credits

For all the westerners who refer to this as an Italian soap opera I'm guessing they've never seen a Fellini Film. Almost all Italian movies take the histrionics to the stratosphere. Ànd most British police procedurals make sleeping through a couple of episodes a way of tighten up a plot.

I like the challenge of shedding my biases a fun way of discovering new shows.

I'm not saying there weren't a few slow spots. But the human, familial experience isn't done better elsewhere. It's just done at a lower volume on this side of the Atlantic. As for the plots for either season, I enjoyed that the WHO in the who done it was not predictable. Originality is something America has lacked since reality TV became a catch phrase to define The Real World on MTV.

  • So many of you missed the point.

Yes, this limited series has Lifetime and Hallmark all over it BUT it has heart, and grit and soul. It also touches on human nature. I don't know what world most of the negative reviewers live in, however it is obvious Dolly lives in a world where married people have affairs. There are also members of of the LGBTQ+ community in her world. Holly's world has people of all colors who love each other.

I don't know how woke the folks who are disturbed by the content of some episodes but since they have subscriptions to Netflix they don't mind the sex and violence so their hypocrisy regarding a more real interpretation of her lyrics and stories is telling. There are gay people all over this country, not just the west coast. And unless these high and mighty folks lead perfect lives I recommend they board up their glass houses. It's funny how when people have mirrors held up to them they insist the perspective is PC, kubayah, feminist BS. They just don't like the fact they are just as flawed as the rest of us.

To ensure their sensibilities aren't disrupted perhaps they should stick to Hallmark or get a subscription to PureFlix.
