The script, seemingly written by the free version of chatgpt, is so bad it leaves no room for a positive review. It is in fact one giant plothole, adorned with bits of storyline. The acting is poor at best. Robert de Niro looks as if he is constantly wondering whether he is in the right studio. "What am I doing here?" Is his sole facial expression.
The Americanism is so overly present, it sometimes makes me laugh. Trying to create a sense of safety by placing an unprotected soldier with a big rifle every two steps of the stairs towards capitol hill is simply hilarious. "We have guns, so we're good! We will shoot this computer virus!" De Niro nails it, when he starts his inquiry: "we are attacked by people that hate us, that hate our life style and our values." As long as Americans believe this, attacks will keep on coming. Dear American friends, nobody hates you for what you ARE. Nobody gives a toss about your lifestyle. Many people hate you for what you DO. For the injustice you inflict on others. When will you finally get that?

Personally, I do not really mind that the story is inaccurate. The film is a version of the biblical story and there is no scientific evidence that the Bible is historically accurate.
I found some of the details rather funny: the weird hats the Pharisees were wearing are an exact copy of those in "Jesus christ superstar".
The film was made by messianic Jews, I.e. Jews who believe that Jesus was a prophet, they just don't believe in His divinity. The result is a flat and uninspiring story. Joseph would have done great in the Prince of Persia, and Mary looked like she constantly was high on pot. No facial expression whatsoever. The angel was so creepy it almost made me laugh. Sir Hopkins' pension must have run empty. I cannot explain his presence in this film otherwise.
Good part: the photography was, at times, rather good.

Clearly this is the teenage version of the first avatar film. A lot of action going on, extremely thin story line, if any, black and white character division so no unnecessary complexity that teenagers will not understand or appreciate, giant plotholes that teenagers will not notice whilst looking down on their smartphones between the action scenes, and so forth.
Beautifully shot, I must admit. As a lover of sea life I occasionally was enchanted.
What stays in my mind most is the user of terminology: evil colonel calls the Na'vi "insurgents" or "hostiles": that's exactly the terminology army officials used to indicate the Iraqi people resisting their country being blown to pieces by British and American bombs. I'll never stop liking James Cameron for making the analogy!
