  • Like a sugar unicycle being ridden by a fork........

Vic and Bob are the greatest 'surrealist' comedians since the Monty Python team.

And 'The Smell Of...' is their greatest achievement to date. Never have I laughed as much as when I first saw this on TV back in the early 90's.

*The schizophrenic folk singers Mulligan and 'O' Hare.

*Otis Reading and Marvin Gaye in a wardrobe.

    *Film noir style vegetable adverts.

    *Silent French flatulence shorts.

    *The paranoid bra-men.

    *Frying-pan fights.

*And of course, Uncle 'DONKEY' Peter.

This really is a show that cannot be adequately described on paper, so watch it for yourself and witness the genius that is Vic and Bob.

"Come on, let's have a look at it..."

  • Smug, pretentious, studenty codswallop.

What a load of pretentious rubbish! I agree totally with the reviewer who observed that the characters spend most of their time trying to look cool instead of delivering their lines. The greatest comedy characters are flawed, thus you can identify and empathise with them. This show is just far too pleased with itself. Even as a surrealist piece, it doesn't work. There are far superior efforts already out there. I feel the hype building with this one however, and as with Little Britain and Nighty Night, it reveals the desperation in this country post-The Office for another successful comedy to sell to the world. A cross between Red Dwarf and Wizbit (an 80's kids show with Paul 'not-a-lot' Daniels), but not as funny or intelligent as either.

  • As good as Emily Howard is at dressing up as a lady.

I guess this 'comedy' is aimed at an early teenage audience, in that they are the only ones who will (possibly) find it funny. It is juvenile without wit, intelligence or any of the qualities that make other British comedies so successful. What puzzles me about this is the unbelievable hype that has surrounded and engulfed it. Usually hype is warranted at some level, but in this case I can honestly say there is nothing in this shambles that justifies its reputation. Perhaps this is an indication that there really hasn't been anything decent on British TV for the past decade, save for Ricky Gervais. Lazy catchphrases, undeveloped characters, mind numbingly juvenile humour and an extremely annoying narration from Tom Baker, this is one Brit comedy that should be avoided at all costs. Go watch The Office or Alan Partridge instead.
