This is one God-awful piece of "cinema"...
JK Simmons either really needed the money or owed the director a favor to have participated (or both). The dialogue is so piss-poor you can't help but wonder how this got made in the first place and how the studio didn't laugh while reading it. Who in their right mind read this and said, "Yes! Let's make this a movie!"
Is that the joke here, that it's an intended comedy hiding behind a thriller and I'm just missing it? You have to give the supporting actors credit-they seem to take themselves so seriously but given the source material it's cringeworthy to watch. I'm convinced Hollywood can no longer make good, original films anymore and this is bonafide proof.
So much to unpack here, but two words first: Clumsy Hunks 😂
The intro feels like a Final Destination throwback, while the rest of the movie plays out like something on the Hallmark channel (which I've referenced in this review before they reference it as I'm watching the film), yet interlaced with some brutal kills. I don't know what to make of it, but it's entertaining and off-the-wall in all the best ways. At one point, the lead character tells her friend she feels like they're having two different conversations; I felt like I was watching two entirely different movies: it's so hilariously odd that you can't help but watch what's unfolding. Even my dog, who rarely watches TV, seems to be enthralled by it. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
Greenlit this POS? Is David Gordon Green friends with Rian Johnson? I ask because now after all these decades, these two jerks have managed to destroy beloved franchises with their new sequels. Did Jamie Lee do this strictly for the paycheck?! As self-righteous and arrogant as she comes across in interviews, I'm surprised she didn't put her foot down and say, "this script is crap." She's spitting in the face of Laurie's legacy by her participation in this film, which serves as living proof that Hollywood is completely out of touch with reality-and don't even get me started on "evil dies tonight" overkill. If comedy was the studio's goal, they hit the bullseye here. All I can do is shake my head... I hope all involved in the making of the movie are embarrassed by this monstrosity.
