Ghost Rider is a flaming disaster - and not in the way the filmmakers intended. From start to finish, the movie feels like a collection of poor choices stitched together with stone faced acting and cringe-worthy dialogue.
Let's start with the casting. Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze might have seemed like a bold choice, but in practice, it's completely misaligned. His performance looks flat and the lines are so funny to hear from his mouth, making it impossible to take the character seriously. The supporting cast does little to redeem the film, with flat deliveries and forgettable presence throughout. The caretaker stands out though.
The writing is where Ghost Rider truly crashes and burns. The plot is paper-thin, filled with clichés and lazy exposition. The dialogue is so corny it borders on parody - lines that were clearly meant to be dramatic end up provoking unintended laughter. Any attempts at emotional depth are quickly undercut by awkward pacing and tone-deaf conversations.
Visually, some scenes might catch your eye, but mostly not that impressive. The action sequences lack weight, and the CGI wasn't much good. Rather than evoking awe or fear, most moments just look like something pulled from a dated video game.
In short, Ghost Rider is a misfire on nearly every level. It's the kind of movie that makes you question how it got greenlit in the first place. Watch it if you're in... Nope!
Steer clear.
