I had very little interest in going to see this, but my daughter wanted to go... So like the poor, put-on father, I dragged myself along.
It was outstanding, I was chuckling along from start to finish - mostly at Arianna Grande who seemed to really enjoy playing the role everyone thinks is her in real life. Shallow, self involved and overly dramatic with the most wicked (pun intended) comic timing. She was really outstanding.
The effects are top class, the music is wonderful and the cast perfect. I walked out after the huge finale with a grin plastered onto my face - the sort I only get very occasionally with movies - the last time being Godzilla Minus One which was another astonishing surprise.
Go see it. Allow it to sweep you up and carry you along. It's a ride that comes along very rarely.

This is such an excellent series from start to finish, it is sometimes a little winding and can be obvious in it's attempts at obscurity, but it's incredibly fun, very polished, often dark and always intriguing.
The series itself is set before the Lord of the Rings and, as it's a TV adaptation of the previous events as set out in some of the lesser known Tolkien books, there is some artistic licence taken. But not to it's detriment.
The acting is superb and the story is a grand as to be expected from a series based upon imaginings from the father of fantasy. Keep an eye out for the multitude of easter eggs, the development of already well known characters and remember that this is an adaptation - it will never be to everyones taste. But it has incredible heart and I well worth a watch.

The effects aren't terrible, but there are just so much of them that it makes you wonder if the production had to balance on the side of quantity at the expense of quality. The thing that really let's this movie down is the dialogue. You can tell that the actors really struggle putting any emphasis or weight behind their lines. It's as though they believe in them less and less as the movie drags on. It starts as fairly promising but by the end its a CGI and script induced headache of a movie.
