Every once in a while when the craziness, hate and violence that is happening in our great country gets to be too much, I revert back to classics like this to remind me of what love and care for each other looks like. It gives me hope that we can get back to that after the chaos and cancer of hate of the last four years. I just watched it again and thought your rating of 7.3 was incredibly low. What would it need to be a 10 I wonder? More car crashes? More DEI characters for no reason? Constant preaching about the evil white man? This was when Hollywood was great. I may watch it again today. I will feel better no doubt. God bless.
I saw this many, many years ago. As a baby boomer with certain medical conditions, one bright spot is being able to see this again not knowing what is coming next. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has always been a gem (watch 50/50) and he doesn't disappoint. I'd forgotten that Matthew Goode was in this. I remember the first time I saw him in Leap Year with Amy Adams and thought mmmm, eye candy. His performance was okay in that but the movie was a bit lame. Seeing this again makes me reappreciate him. He was excellent and the rest of the cast was outstanding. I'll go back to watching and if the rest or the ending disappoints, I will edit this review, and maybe do it all again next year. Take a look, what's not to love?
I am a baby boomer. I grew up on Twilight Zone. Last year I watched some of the newer episodes with Jordan Peele as the narrator. I was shocked at his clear bias toward white America. I had been quite ill and had not watched regular TV or cable for quite a while. I watched this version of Candyman on cable last night and there was that same slant. The remake was jampacked with the same hatred. I noticed after that Jordan Peele was associated with it and it all made sense. In addition, the actual movie with what felt like half of it involving stick figures was hard to get through. Don't waste your time with this, just watch the original, made with love and the best intentions to entertain all.
