Apparently there's an original movie. I never saw it. I went in blind. This movie is so extremely predictable. Pretty boring. Some scenes never made any sense.
The ending I could see a mile away. I knew from in the first five minutes, how the story was going to end. The "twist" was not twisting. Not when it's that predictable. There where so many signs even in the first scenes. Naomi Watts did not deliver. Neither did the boy who played Elias.
It was just bad. Not one likable character and I felt no emotion in the entire movie. This was weak.
1/10 is generous. I had a little hope this was a original story. It wasn't.
I regret watching this.

The movie is seriously underrated on IMDB. The acting of Lizzy and Antony was top notch.
Even without the reveal of the story afterwards. Honestly even when everything seemed normal at the beginning. You feel there is something wrong with them. It gave me adult coraline vibes.
The parents where so creepy and I do feel sorry for poor Peter. He's just an abused boy.
Yes maybe there are some plotholes but this was a good thrill. It had my heartbeat going an extra mile.
Even when the "reveal" happens it was still good. I find many movies to turn bad as soon as you know everything. But I didn't mind this one. This movie has it all. Gore. Creepy slow horrorfactor. And top notch acting.
It gives creepy adult coraline vibes VS classic Halloween gore.
Must watch for the real horrorfans.

If you are a fan of the original. Be prepared to feel disappointed.
As a real fan of the original with Patrick Swayze. This is disappointing.
I'm happy they didn't make a exact copie or I would be really mad and it would be worse.
The movie was okay. The only thing keeping this movie on a good page is Jake Gyllenhaal. You know he worked out like crazy for this movie and he's still is a great actor.
I miss a soul in this movie.
The movie had no connection. The rest of the characters had zero development. Also it isn't really about a bar anymore. In the original you know who is who and feel a connection with everybody that works in the bar. Also 2 bouncers ? The owner of the bar was flat. No fighting spirit and a liar. Where did her money come from paying Dalton ?
You have no time for feeling any connection with anyone.
In the original Dalton comes to the bar and it takes a lot of time improving it. And you really see the bar thriving. In this I wasn't even sad when something got destroyed. I felt no connection to the bar or its location.
I missed the Sam Elliot character in this movie. The banter. The humor. It's just Jake against everybody. The romantic scenes where ZERO. Jake and the actress had zero chemistry. It had ZERO purpose. Jake was more upset about the bookstore then her being "kidnapped".
In the original movie there are only sparks between Kelly and Patrick.
The "bad guy" looks like a teenager. Acted like one. He was just annoying. Horrible character. The reason for ruining the bar. Cliché and made no sense at all.
In the original movie the bad guy was believable. He was a privileged old man who took from hard working class and hits women. I found his death to be fulfilling.
Conor can't act. He can fight. But that's it. He looked a bit like Tasmanian Devil the cartoon. This was his character.
Don't get me started about the music. In the original the music was fire ! I even listen to the soundtracks just for fun. I won't be listening to these basic, soulless bands. Period.
Some good fightscenes and little humor bits. But not enough. Only funny guy was on the "bad guys" team walking with a cast around his arm. He was a little fun. Gave Tom Holland vibes.
In short:
Character development Zero Music horrible Not a bar movie anymore No good romance No soul
Jake saved the move from total flop. But that's it. 5/10
I find the ratings on this movie to high.
