In itself the story is interesting: after 12 years father comes back.
But to keep interesting there have to be more than just some not so important storylines. Its amazing nowadays how much others want to see so much more in a movie than what going on in-also- this very simple story.
Again: many critics make interpretations of there own: want to see more than whats all about happening in a movie.
I get to many times the impression that when there are not really interesting film just one irs chosen to have the opportunity to give an award whatsover.
To say it very simplistic.
To begin with: see my title of this review.
I never saw in my "filmlife" (about 2200 feature films I saw) such incredible bad and uninteresting and stuped dialogues: unbelievable!
What a pity for a movie with for so many with an interesting story and good filmactors/actresses........And with such beautiful compostions in pictures and soundtracks.....Also the the color-quality of the restaured movie is excellent....
How it is possible that even a critic by the BBC does not mentioned the bad side of the movie...
Years ago I spoke with a head of an drama-dept of the BBC at the I.B.C. in Amsterdam. He agreed when I asked him about the ratings given every year at the BAFTA: not what it was once...also too many times overrarting productions...
I think this movie became also famous by a hype as it is nowadays too much times....
This comforted me, also this time.....
Lets bring together a good actor (Lee Jones) and actress (Streep), give them a moving story in which people can recognise themselves: voila: you can get a good movie.
But only, finally, made by a convincing director, cameraman and editor.
You have to believe : its real, but you know its a movie, still.
The end is marvellous: so -again- convincing and moving. And: with such nice composition in pictures...Great!
