A movie where you can't really blame anyone for how they act, yet you still feel an intense amount of anger for their actions. You understand everyone's reactions and feelings, yet the fact that that's how it had to be was beyond tragic.. Injustice is a part of life, and this movie once more shows how it can never not be; not only because it is human nature, but also because we are never able to know the truth in cases like this (when do you believe the child? When do you believe the man? How do you decide? And will that decision be the right one?). The whole thing was truly masterfully done..
HA! The minute I started watching this, I was immediatelly wondering "Why does the main character have such a whiny, squeaky, choked up voice that sounds like he can barely breathe in between his lines?" But then I saw the writer casted HIMSELF as the main character and it suddenly all made sense... Talk about narcissism! That really gives me the ick. Such a shame, too, cus this could have been so much better with a stronger lead.
Anyway, other than that, I thought this was so cool! I love that we got to experience a musical on screen, as if we're watching it live in theatre; I wish more musicals did this, so everyone would be able to enjoy it!
This musical itself was also a lot of fun. I never thought history could be so enjoyable.
And hey, despite the fact that the lead can barely sing, as a writer he truly is a lyrical and musical genius, because these songs are great and they tell the story so clearly and engagingly!
It also helps that all the other actors really do act and sing their hearts out and really bring out all the musical hype with a perfect mixture of intrigue, comedy, song and feeling!
