The film spends it's entire time meandering along without really going anywhere or getting anywhere fast. Plenty of better films in the same vein like "Bird Box".. "Signal" or "A quiet place".
The plot revolves around a mother and her two sons with the mother trying to protect the lads from the darkness,evil,entity's.. no actual idea what was what at the conclusion.
The acting is solid throughout and I would suspect with a slightly better plot the film would benefit from this decent cast.

Sound's like Faust is back and he is now called longlegs!
The 7th guest is a point and click game from the 1990's and has a similar storyline and idea to this movie, kinda!
Nick cage brings in a suitable creepy performance. Some very nice set peices form Cage but these alone don't make for a complete or comprehensive movie.
Some genuinely creepy and gross out parts in the film, but again they don't compensate for the lack luster script of a movie.
Maika Monroe puts in a seller performance and can't be faulted with the material presented.
Again some nice set pieces, but on the whole a film that if missed, you would not be left wanting!

OK so how many films have the reviewers watched? The low score doesn't equate to the film I have just watched on Amazon. Like a stage play in the one room, most storytelling has been done before but you need to tell it in a new and unique way. The story went along at a good pace and had a start, middle and ending. Plenty of decent action and the headset gimmick was pretty good. I would say the budget was low on this one so kudos for making something unique.
Plenty of movies miss the mark on the entertainment scale and if you are at a loose end looking for something a bit different then just give this some of your time.
