  • Melodrama and no ending in sight

This movie has this constant feeling of building up to something- but I felt that the melodrama and unnaturalness of the portrayal kept pulling me out of the story. I'm pretty sure the script was written by ai, and likewise with Theron's face- it might be ai. It makes it so that her acting is that uncanny valley of very intense but surreal because of her lack of ability to use her face. The melodrama is still the worst, it's an epic story of immortals facing villains who want to destroy the world, so it can take some melodrama and still be convincing, but it still a killer of worldbulding in this movie, because you can't relax your suspension of disbelief. Like when a villain sets up a trap and poses with a powerstance and half profile to the security camera to get that epic build up to...

    Disbelief and cringe.

There is no ending to this movie, and the story is so halfassed that you should not bother with this one, unless you have two hours that you don't mind wasting.

I'm not going to be watching the third installment of this series, because I'm pretty sure it won't be worth the time either, a pity cause the story has good bones.

  • A great movie

No spoilers here- simply I'll say this: I heard this was trash, perhaps the worst movie of all times, but that's not what I saw in this movie.

Phoenix delivers a gut wrenching performance as Arthur Fleck/Joker. As in the last film we are privy to his private world, where the horrors of real life is replaced with fantasy when the world gets to be too much.

Gaga is outstanding as Harley Quinn, she invokes the insanity of that character in an impressive and seamless performance.

Tim Dillon is a great piggy guard, looking for a signature to make a buck on the tragedy of it all (as is his style), but I won't forgive him for letting me believe this movie was bad.

This movie has layers, its gut wrenching, and it rubs your face in the brutality of Flicks life. But it's sooo good- so nuanced and so real. Hope you give it a shot, but know that this is a more real life depiction of a man who has never known love or kindness, than a movie who embodies a comic villain.

  • Interesting, but not perfect

First of- this movie starts a visual feast. It's full of interesting visual tableaus that set an eerie mood for the first two sequences of the film. Demi Moore has some spectacular emotional scenes, and is stellar when the script allows her to emote. Dennis Quaid deliver a character that is trashy, insensitive and grotesque- perfect as the villain of this film.

As a story it's not without its flaws- the choice of Demi as leading actor is ironic, a legendary beauty who has had ALL the surgeries in order to cling to her younger self's image. The two leads portrays characters that are devoid of any other motivation than fame and youth, to contort themselves into the mold set by Quaids character, Harvey, in order to have the world love them. The shallowness of this pursuit is illustrated by filming buttocks, breast and legs- close up and repeatedly. The film itself creates what it satirizes, as films like this often do.

The ending takes the body horror, that has been interestingly portrayed in the two first segments of the film to about notch eleven- and it's a bit much.

Worth the watch- but it's not a masterpiece by any means.
