My English friend introduced me to this movie way back in 1997 and I have to admit that I didn't completely get it. However, it was my first year living in Europe. Exposure to the English and their humour sorted that out.
Richard E. Grant is absolutely brilliant and Paul McGann is perfect as his apprehensive friend.
I've probably seen this movie at least 100 times including a showing at a review theatre here in Toronto. Each and every time I see it, I laugh and appreciate it for the true genius it is.
To anyone that hasn't seen this yet, do yourself a big favour and check it out. You won't regret it.

Whew this isn't a great movie. I wouldn't waste your time.
However, what really caught my attention was one reviewers comments. They claimed that during WW1 the Americans fought with the Germans and then followed it up with this comment...."It doesn't take a genius to know a little about history." Apparently it does.
The Germans never fought with the Americans during either WW1 or WW2. They entered both wars late (1916 and 1942 respectively) but were on the side of the Allies.
I know this review has nothing to do with the actual movie but considering we now have all historical information at our fingertips via the internet, such comments just shocking.

Wow!! This movie was absolutely terrible on every level. If there is funding available for this kind of drivel, we should all write a script. Surely they couldn't be worse.
