It's like if Stranger Things didn't take its concept so darn seriously. I really enjoyed their approach to sci-fi time travel dynamics and philosophy through the lens of young teen girls. Four girls each with very different life stories discovering things about their futures extrapolates a lot of different potential possibilities in terms of their reactions.
It's a trip to be sure, and without giving any spoilers, the last episode is by no means what you might expect. For a show that keeps you guessing throughout, you'll never see it coming. As a bonus, Ali Wong is an absolute delight in this role.

I wouldn't recommend this to everyone but I guarantee you've never seen anything like this. I feel as if I was allowed to live inside Kate's brain for an hour, not in like a creepy Being John Malkovich way but just like I had her eyes and her brain. Okay no that's worse, it was like I had an opportunity to live in her shoes and live her life, not in an everyday "Oh I'm paying the power bill" but more like "Oh these tomatoes look a little off so I should probably use them soon." No that's not it. It's just that defining a uniquely eccentric comedian using the tedious parlance of stand-up analysis is so pedantic that I chose to embody her voice in honor of the singular feat that was this special. So watch it. Or don't. But do.
I can't believe this show is not more widely appreciated. It pulls elements from a number of other sci-fi shows and movies, including Battlestar Galactica which is ironic given that the cast features across who played Starbuck and Ellen Tieg. The show deftly balances components of alien invasion, mystery, FTL exploration and many others. The social dynamic of the different characters on the ship Solvare is also very interesting, and I haven't even mentioned the artifact, which obviously pulls from 2001 A Space Odyssey. I'm halfway through the second season and it's just as fascinating and engaging as the first.
