It is really hard to make a double three act structure film work, and Trey Edward Shults does It. With a story this "big" and complex there was something needed to put everything together, and that's when the colour and aspect ratio come in. This two elements shape the whole movie with the help of music, directing and editing. I would like to underline how compact this movie feels, It seems like every little thing is going for a single collective goal.
The movie reminds me how universal and timeless can be everything that will happen to every single one of us, even If those actions won't change a thing for the rest.
Really worth checking It out, do not miss It, one of the best american indie films of the year.

I really love Unamuno's work, and when I heard this movie was in production and that they would shot some scenes in my hometown, I said to myself "I have to watch this".
It turns out not as good as I would like It to be, but still watchable. Amenábar bravely chooses a very controversial time period and historical figure. Some criticisim is related to the way he portrays the National side, but I think he deals with It skillfully. My biggest reproach would be, and this is very personal, that even If the movie captures his persona at times, fails at doing It throughout the rest of It. It might be because Miguel de Unamuno was too much of a human and too good at being.
Anyway, read his books, he was one of the greatests.

The editing, cinematography and camera work in this movie are godlike.
A very interesting approach to the life of a female dancer that chooses a music style that is well known for defaming women but decides to go around that concept in order to reveal herself.
I highly recommend his previous films, Pablo Larraín is a great director, do not miss his work.
