This one was too scary for me. I've seen 100's of horror films and this one is a the top or the list of scares. I have a rule: a film has to be a least as good as it is scary/distrubing/etc. This film is at least 70% good to its scares, which are a 10/10 for me. There are scenes that are seared into my brain when I'm walking alone in the dark in my house. That's how you know it's effective: if the film stays with you long after it's over. I honestly had trouble closing my eyes at night going to sleep for about 2 weeks after watching this. It's disturbing, but the scares are excellent and it's one of the best horror of this decade.
I don't make that claim lightly: I've seen 100's of horror films. There are so many scenes and images of this film seared into my brain. You know it's a horrifying film if when you search it you don't want to look at the images for it brings back the fright you had while watching the film. It boasts a truly menacing entity. I would only watch this again in a group setting because it messed with me so much. That being said, it's easily one of the best horror films of this decade. It is truly effective, like hereditary. It's disturbing, frightening, and stays with you LONG after the film is over. That's how I know this is one of the good ones.
