  • Trashy Fun

Ok, so this show wasn't Shakespeare. It was pure trash, but fun trash. It actually begain as a two hour movie in 1988. Mimi Kuzyk was the star (replaced by Suzanne Pleshette in the tv series). Fran Bennett was in it as Nurse Lenore and Kristy Swanson, Chelsea Field and Susan Walters were also there. The other two girls in the movie were played by Galyn Gorg and Neith Hunter (replaced in the series by Roxann Biggs and Kim Johnston Ulrich). I really like the movie and was happy to see it ordered to series the following spring. Barry Newman was on hand as Garrett in the series but about midway through the run of the show Gil Gerard was added to the cast and I got the feeling he was there to phase Barry Newman out. Also added to the cast midway through the season was Doran Clark as over the top nasty Dr. Charlene Chasen. She was an actress I had always liked, but I could not stand her character on this show.. This was pure soap opera full of sexcapades and silly storylines, but it was an entertaining hour of television. I was very sorry to see it end, especially since the storylines were left up in the air.

  • Faded fast

This is a prime example of a show that started out strong and then plummeted in the ratings. It was a big hit in its first season airing on Monday nights and was a top twenty show. The second season CBS moved it to Saturday nights where it dropped to something like number 88 in the ratings. I can't help but wonder what would have happened had it stayed on Mondays. Pam Dawber and Rebecca Schaeffer worked so well together you forgot that the two actresses weren't sisters in real life. And yes, Rebecca died a year after the show was cancelled, it wasn't cancelled because of her death. I wish this show would be released on DVD.

  • Revamped version of another series

This was a short-lived prime time soap from 1982. It was actually a revamped version of another short-lived series "Secrets Of Midland Heights." When that series was canceled in 1981, the producers took 4 of that show's stars-Linda Hamilton, Doran Clark, Daniel Zippi and Marilyn Jones-and made King's Crossing. Although as a teen I liked "Midland Heights" better, I enjoyed this show too. Linda Hamilton and Marilyn Jones played sisters and their parents were Mary Frann and Bradford Dillman. Doran Clark was their disabled cousin who was kept in the attic by their nasty aunt and Daniel Zippi was a stable boy on the farm where they lived. As in the other series, Marilyn Jones and Daniel Zippi were the cute, star-crossed couple. I always thought they had great chemistry together. I was always sorry that they never became big stars like Linda Hamilton did, as they were all very talented. I keep hoping both of these shows will turn up on cable someday. Sadly, Mary Frann, Bradford Dillman, Dorothy Meyer and Beatrice Straight have passed on. Of course Linda Hamilton became a huge star later on and Doran Clark and Marilyn Jones had some minor TV success in the 80's. Never saw Daniel Zippi again, but would love to see how the surviving cast members are doing now.
