  • Fun Sci-fi with some introspection

Reviews have become so harsh now adays. Not every movies I watch has to be a masterpiece. I think of a 7 as something that is enjoyable to watch. This wasn't even completely mindless entertainment since there was some interesting, albeit rather basic, thought-provoking points. The actors did a good job of showing emotion that would be appropriate for strong bonds.

The pacing of the movie made the bonds feel too soon since they often jumped significant time periods without making it explicitly obvious that this had been done.

It wasn't fantastic, but it was enjoyable enough to want to see a sequel. I generally think of movies at this rating as so poorly made that they aren't enjoyable to watch.

I would add that for this to be enjoyable one should be a fan of sci-fi and world building and don't expect the sci-fi to be well grounded it science, but it doesn't always have to be since it is a fiction genre after all.

  • Solid anime

The reviews for this anime are too low in my opinion. As the most helpful review (current at the time of writing) points out the show doesn't really have something to say, but I'm not convinced this is a flaw of the show. In some ways, it felt like a more realistic take on this kind of sci-fi future a lot of shows try to make some critique or point about what would happen with futuristic technology, but realistically, these things are pretty much impossible to predict. Instead, the show focuses on great plot and family turmoil, and uses great sci-fi to do so.

The show is definitely quite cerebral in its plot, despite not making a point, but it definitely gets you thinking, if you're more philosophical in nature.

  • New combinations of genre

This show combined drama and horror in a unique way that is a great watch if you have the right expectations. This is a drama show that revolves around horror. It's not an action show or much of a horror show either.
