The Alien universe is a mess. After the disaster of Romulus and Covenant you'd think Fox would've learnt their lesson and just stopped.
I was mildly excited for this based on the trailers, but two episodes in I'm bored and apathetic. The script is lousy, the plot is a mess so far and character development is nonexistent. Clearly they've had a massive budget for sets and effects - they should've spent the money on better cinematography, a decent lighting designer, and a decent director of photography, as a lot of the shots are cluttered and badly angled - and that's the main problem for me, the execution is appalling. The characters are one dimensional and gain no empathy from the audience, Weyland the boy genius running around with Gen Z curls and no shoes is a cliche and the rest of the cast give flat robotic performances - oh the irony. Married with a ton of plot holes and actors with extremely poor diction (mumbling and inaudible, and one with a modern London accent?!) it just makes it feel inauthentic and artificial. It's Aliens for people that have never seen Alien or were even alive when it was released. Gen Z is clearly the main audience who will no doubt think it's the best thing since Barbie.

I really liked this, quite an entertaining creepy and quirky movie. It's a little predictable at times,, and a few wee plot holes, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it. I especially loved the dance of death, wanted more of that, but maybe too much would've ruined it as it was nicely underplayed. Really wish IMDB didn't have a minimum character limit for reviews because I've said it all - a great gem of a movie that I will probably watch again at some point. M3GAN will probably be one of those films that will have a bit of a cult following like Ex Machina. Definitely one of the better AI creature features.
