  • Everyone knows the truth

I remember the verdict and I can honestly say I wasn't surprised at the time. The defense team successfully turned this into a case about race and a referendum on the LA police department. The prosecution had all the evidence necessary, but were totally outclassed. Their bungling, and those of the detectives, made for an easy acquittal.

This documentary puts all of this on display, complete with interviews from many key players. I highly recommend it to those to young to remember as well as those who saw it happening.

In the end, the presentation reminds us of what really happened. All the impressive legal wranglings, race divisions, drama, and emotions aside - OJ killed Ron and Nicole.

Everyone knows the truth - even Carl Douglas.

  • Interesting in a side show kind of way.

My key measurement of a documentary's quality is whether or not it is trying to sell something. I believe the film makers did a good job of not promoting Bryan's quest. Instead, it was more informative about a very unique, if not odd lifestyle. This got it to a five, but ultimately it was just too creepy for me to give it any more.

Bryan has quite a few hang ups, and this seemed to be the focus of the second half of the film. I'm glad he has found a way to cope with his depression, loneliness, and lack of interpersonal skills - especially since he only has a few hundred million in the bank.

Ultimately, I found him creepy, narcissistic, and (ironically) very unhealthy looking! He kinda reminds me of the movie character "Powder".

Notice how often he appears shirtless.

    Total sideshow attraction.
Jack Black in Dear Santa (2024)

  • It's a low five at the time I'm writing this review

I think it deserves better. Maybe a point or so higher. This is not a great movie, but it is fun if you're not uptight over the idea of a young boy somehow misspelling his letter to Santa and summoning Satan instead.

I certainly understand how certain Christian folks may find this offensive, but oh well.

If this describes you, I would avoid it. Otherwise it's a fun little watch if not a little dark.

Jack Black comes through in his usual fashion and makes it fun. It's not a perfect movie of course but if you're just looking for entertainment and not interested in breaking down everything, I highly recommend it.

  • Impressed by the lack of politics - especially considering the topic

Civil war is the backdrop of the movie - not the subject. Very little is said regarding the background of the conflict or issues involved. Considering the topic, I'm impressed by the lack of politics and taking sides.

It is an entertaining travel epic told through the eyes of journalist as they try to document what seems to be the final days of the war. It is not a complex plot, yet very thought provoking. I left wondering what it would it take for the United States to get to this point, and would it look anything like this?

There is good action, but maybe not enough for some. I've read as few of the low reviews and this is one of the gripes. Others complain about an agenda. I disagree on both counts and recommend this to any fan of action drama.
