  • I admit, I fast-forwarded thru much of this film

I watched the first twenty minutes of this film and thought it was weird and incomprehensible. So, I started fast-forwarding to review various scenes.

First, let me say that critics thought this movie was a return to the director's roots, or his arty style. I dunno. I like stories that make their point by not being unintelligible or confusing. I'm not an idiot. Why does this director think that anyone is going to understand the point, ASSUMING there is a point. I'm not really sure there is with this film.

Dafoe plays a really controlling old man in the first section and probably throughout the entire film. What is the point of showing that idiocy? Did the director think that women don't know that there are old white guys out there who want to control everything people do?

An old guy at the grocery store told me I was rude because I spoke to him without asking permission. Yes, exactly. Let's do a movie about people like that where they get the reactions they deserve. THAT might be interesting.

  • Consider what you could be doing instead of watching

Consider what you could be doing instead of watching this movie.

I love movies. I have favorite movies, actors, story-lines, versions when there are multiples.

I was interested in The Green Knight because of the casting and because I really like "costume dramas" which are set in different time periods.

The time period production of this movie was the best. The beautiful scenery, the settings, the rooms, the clothing, those things were all gorgeous. That accounts for the additional two stars.

At first, I was confused as to the why the very dramatic opening was occurring. I felt I had missed something.

I was wrong. Nothing is explained, nothing make sense, and nothing works. Why is this all happening? I don't know. It certainly does not make for entertainment!

So. Unless you want to enjoy the look of the film, move on to something more interesting. BTW, the TV series Brittania does a great job for this timeframe. Honestly, I'm not sure what that is, but it seems about right.

  • I Watch This Movie Every Year!

Yeah, so I understand that people who hate this movie are expecting a 'family' film and not this actual movie. This movie has weird scenes of a sexual nature. Olivia Wilde is about as funny as you can get for those scenes, BTW. Do NOT miss her performance.

There are two families in this film. One is Ty Burrell and Jennifer Garner and her step-daughter. The other is Silverstone and Corrdry who have recently adopted a young girl. These two families come together for the butter carving contest that is happening in their Idaho town and will be happening at the state fair, as well.

The wackiness of Garner and Burrell's family is what really makes this movie SING. So, if you don't mind R-rated sexual situations, please see this film. It's funny as it can be.
