  • Ideal if you want to fall asleep...

Actually telling a detective story with the supposedly "greatest detective" sounds like a cool concept in theory. It becomes much less cool if you drag this nonsense out to create a 3 hour movie.

I honestly fell asleep multiple times and outside of that it was supposed to be a story about the Riddler and how many people apparently have dirty secrets in Gotham (I know - what a shocker) I couldn't tell you anything about what has happened.

The character of Batman feels incredibly stupid in this movie with how he acts and behaves. Instead of working in the shadows and using the costume to his advantage he often just walks in through the main door like he's invincible and a bullet to his jaw can't hurt him. Lucky for him he has plot armor and no bad guy ever aims their gun at the obvious weak spots.

To me it feels like the creators of this movie have no idea who or what Batman is supposed to be. I can acknowledge if they're trying to move away from the standard super hero slop that is made these days. But at least do something that makes sense with the character. His detective skills seem to be terrible at best. There are fight scenes but they just seem very standard to be honest and a lot of the side characters seem wasted.

So much wasted potential in an overly long self-indulgent movie. What a shame...

  • painful to watch

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is not a good movie. The story is extremely messy and there are way to many characters with to much terrible comic relief.

The initial setup of the story is good and had potential to create a threatening antagonist with lots of scary scenes and potentially even more ghost appearences.

All of it was thrown away though in favor of focusing on way to many side characters and useless side plots that didn't really go anywhere. The main villain is released through some contrived plot point where a supposedly super smart main character suddenly acts completely brain dead.

And the way the story is resolved is also just stupid. I have no idea how they could even remotely think that anyone would like this.

Half of the old main cast is back in action but some of them are just there to be there without having any real reason to be there. I mean what even is the purpose of Janine (Annie Potts) in this movie outside of "she was in the old movies"? She's there and does some Ghostbusters stuff but it's not really clear why.

Also the kids from Afterlive are also here and they still are not really fun or interesting. Everything about this movie just feels to forced while it wastes all of its potential. It's so sad.

Also next time I'd like to have some actual ghost busting in my ghostbusters movie...

  • Good for a one time watch

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a decent sent off for Harold Ramis. The story is good enough to keep you watching till the end the first time even though the new characters are not really interesting.

There are a lot of throwbacks to the earlier movies creating a sense of nostalgia and the old cast gets one more chance to shine towards the end as well.

The special effects and sound design are good and there are a couple of somewhat scary moments similar to what the older Ghostbusters movies pulled off.

Still there are problems mostly due to the new cast which can be quite annoying at times and it would've been better if the focus right out of the gate would've been on the old cast while preparing a transition to a younger team that still should consist of adults and not kids/teenagers.
