While I'm breathlessly attracted to both Salma and Penélope, I can't help but conclude that this is a really bad movie. It's only redeeming grace was the presence of the two leads. While, at least in this movie, their acting wouldn't win any awards, I think they did well with what they were given. Frankly, just as not many people looked at Playboy for the articles (despite what many claimed) I was was almost satisfied to just google at the girls.
I wasn't expecting anything approaching great cinema but this movie was filled with so many brainless cliches and hackneyed stereotypes it comes off as ridiculously vaudevillian. In a word, disappointing.

After ignoring all the glaring logical deficiencies (no rotting bodies, etc.) the main problem I had with this movie was the incredibly schlocky dialog and plot line, drenched in racial tensions that, in a world populated by three people, would be even more ridiculous and stupid than in the world of billions of people. I'm guessing when it came out the story of a black guy (even someone as handsome as Belefonte) alone with a white woman was controversial enough by itself to generate marketable interest. Now, it seems inane.
Bottom line, if you enjoy overly dramatic soap operas, then you might enjoy this movie. For me, trying to digest the silly emotional nonsense throughout the movie was nauseating.

It's hard to describe just how bad this thing is. My greatest complaint is summed up in the title of my post. The stilted and clumsy script is comparable to the almost indescribably bad "Plan 9 From Outer Space". And that is AFTER taking into account that it is intended to be outlandishly over-the-top in terms of its cheesy dialogue.
In short, even on its own terms of campy, buffoonish comedy, it FAILS, completely and utterly!
