I watched CID Ramachandran Retd. SI on Manorama Max today. The film follows the story of a retired policeman with 33 years of meritorious service, who, unable to step away from his field even after retirement, starts a detective agency. The movie revolves around one of the investigation cases he takes up.
Kalabhavan Shajon plays the title character, and the character is brilliantly portrayed as one of the standout characters in the film. Shajon gives a full-fledged performance, while the supporting cast, including Anumol, Baiju, Sudhir Karamana, Premkumar, Shankar Mahadevan, Aziz Nedumangad, and Pauly Wilson, along with several new faces, contribute well to the story. I was also thrilled to see my dear friend Shijin Sivankutty in the film-I'm so happy for him, and I hope he gets more great roles!
While the film shapes up as a solid investigation thriller, I felt the screenplay could have been tighter. There are elements that feel unnecessary, such as the subplot involving the hero's daughter's love story, which could have been trimmed. The editing, too, could have been a bit more crisp. However, these issues don't detract significantly from the overall experience.
It's unfortunate that this movie, which hit theaters earlier this year, didn't get the success it deserved. It seems the promotion was lacking.
Nevertheless, the movie is now streaming on Manorama Max, and I recommend giving it a watch. I'll definitely head to the theater for the next Sanoop Sathian-directed film!

I recently watched the Malayalam movie Kishkindha Kandam, a masterfully scripted mystery thriller directed by Dinjith Ayyathan. Set in a village near a forest, the slow-paced narrative allows the surroundings to become a character in itself, adding depth to the storytelling.
Vijayaraghavan delivers what I consider his career-best performance as Appu Pillai, a retired army man. Asif Ali takes on the lead role, with Aparna Balamurali as the female lead, and both give outstanding performances. Everything about the movie stands out-the cinematography, music, acting, and editing all come together seamlessly, making this yet another gem from South Indian Malayalam cinema.
In my opinion, Kishkindha Kandam is the best film I've watched in recent times. I highly recommend watching it in theatres for the full experience.

I recently watched the Korean movie A Taxi Driver on Amazon Prime, a film that had been sitting on my watchlist for quite some time. Based on true events from 1980s Korea, the movie is a thrilling and gripping portrayal of history. It's a must-watch for anyone who enjoys powerful storytelling.
I was especially impressed by how well they recreated the atmosphere of 1980s Korea-it felt incredibly authentic. Song Kang-ho, the lead actor, delivered an exceptional performance. I'm familiar with his work from Memories of Murder and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, and once again, he didn't disappoint.
Overall, A Taxi Driver is a remarkable film that leaves a lasting impact.
