I hope Alex Klutzman and Jar Jar Abrahms are proud of themselves. Just when you thought Disgracery was the worst Trek ever, with Disgard S1+ S2 nipping at its heals, Section 31 says "hold my Romulan ale." At least Disney had the decency to NOT make another Trek tv series, I will credit them with that. First question - why? Why is this movie here? Why not spend the money on a DS9 movie? Or a Voyager one? Or an Enterprise one? Enterprise was cruelly cancelled after S4, which, IMHO, was as good as any previous Trek. They could have built on the S31 lore introduced in Enterprise. And yet, this excretion is served up by the studio instead. Plot holes big enough for the Bismarck to sail through. Even though it only runs 90 odd minutes, it felt waaaay longer. Hopeless plot, shocking writing and directing, I sure hope Michelle Yeoh got a huge cheque for this turgid excuse for a Star Trek film. As so many people have been imploring the studio for YEARS, sack Alex Klutzman immediately and get someone like Ron Moore or Manny Coto in and give them carte blanche to rebuild Star Trek. Please.
A pointless remake or reimagining of the classic 1938 original. Who asked for this to be made? Nobody. Why would you do it? What braniac producer said "I've got a great idea! Let's make a modern interpretation of a classic!". Do no modern producers and/or studios have anything new to work with these days? Are they so bereft of original ideas that they think something like this would be a worthy project? Do they actually think something like this is worthy of the original title? George Bernard Shaw must be rolling over in his grave watching his masterpiece being reduced to this level of nothingness! Do yourself a favour and watch the 1938 original - you won't be sorry.
