The first season was great. A straight adaption of the character from the novels. The second season slipped a long way. I am currently working through the third season, and am close to jumping ship. The casting and direction is getting worse as well. One example is the character "Dominique", the actress speaks fast and without any regard for enunciation. This means that subtitles are a must whenever she is on screen. This is actually a minor annoyance given that the direction of the plot is so formulaic that you can easily see what is coming anyway. It is basically a comic book on steroids at this point.

Season one to three deserved a rating of 10. Season four was abysmal. How the writers and directors could destroy a show like this is beyond belief, and you can only guess what was going through their minds. The plot was always over the top and required the viewer to suspend disbelief and just enjoy the fluff and fancy. The last season required stubbornness to see it out to the bitter end. I suspect a lot of viewers simply jumped ship sometime in the first few episodes of season four. It is gratingly bad, somewhat akin to the frustration one feels when writing a review that has to be a certain length, for no damned good reason.
