In my opinion most reviews here are too harsh on the movie. Its about mystery, vienna, art, riddles... the typical Dan Brown stuff. Yes, the phylosophical aspects of it are gone, but wasn't that expected? Its a movie. They want to make it all actiony, like they always do.
The different ending really surprised me aswell. The books end is smart and makes you think. The movie end is just actiony again. Thats disappointing, but still:
If you expect a cool action mystery movie, where the protagonists are being followed and have to solve riddles and all, this movie is really good, like a 8/10.
If you've read the book and expect the same level, then it's more a 5 or a 6. Go into the movie with the right expectations and you'll be satisfied.

Even though i havent read the book, I feel like the book is better than the movie. A lot of stuff isnt explained, the happenings seem rushed, summarized, more like an overview and exactly like following a story that wasnt written for a movie. Its not bad, but also not great.
I think you will have the most fun watching this movie, if youve already read the book and just lean back and enjoy a movie makers take on the visuals, that are different in every readers head, and the story, that is probably slightly different from how you remember it.

I really liked that movie. The way Sherlock Holmes is portrayed here strongly reminds me of the 2010 TV show, called Sherlock (which is really great). In contrast to every other Sherlock movie I've watched before, this one resembles the 2010 Sherlock the best and I really like that version of him.
