A struggling and penniless American painter lives in Paris after the French resistance, to make the most of his art in this beautiful city with a thriving art scene. He competes with another artist for the affections of Lise (Leslie Caron).
The only problem is, he spends most of his time dancing and leaping around than actually engaging in any painting.
Like many musicals from the so called Golden age of Hollywood, too many dance routines are thrown in presumably to make up for a rather thin plot. As a result the film feels more like an endurance test rather than one for enjoyment - unless you are an avid fan of MGM musicals.
